Deworming Schedule for Puppies and Kittens in the Philippines
Almost every puppy and kitten is born with worms or gets them from the mother's milk. A regular deworming schedule protects growth and health, and it also protects your family.
Many vets start deworming at 2–4 weeks old and repeat every 2–3 weeks until the vaccine series is done, then monthly until about 6 months. Adult dogs and cats are usually dewormed every 3 months. Always use a dose based on your pet's weight, set by your vet.
Puppy and kitten deworming schedule
| Age | What to do | Est. cost per dose |
|---|---|---|
| 2–4 weeks | First deworming (vet-advised dose) | ₱100 – ₱250 |
| 4–8 weeks | Repeat every 2–3 weeks | ₱100 – ₱250 |
| 8 weeks – 6 months | Deworm monthly, alongside vaccines | ₱150 – ₱300 |
| 6 months and older | Deworm every 3 months | ₱150 – ₱300 |
Vets differ slightly on timing, so follow your own vet's plan. Prices are estimates.
Signs your puppy or kitten has worms
- Pot belly with a thin body
- Diarrhea, vomiting or visible worms in stool or vomit
- Dull coat and poor weight gain
- Scooting or licking the rear
- Coughing in young animals, which can be a sign of migrating roundworm larvae
Deworming safety tips
- Weigh your pet and use the dose your vet gives. Overdosing is dangerous for small puppies and kittens.
- Use products made for dogs or cats; never use human or livestock products without a vet.
- Deworm the mother too if the litter is infected.
- Pick up feces daily and wash hands, since some worms can infect people.
- Deworming does not replace heartworm and flea prevention. See our flea, tick and heartworm guide.
Where to get it free or cheap
Many city and municipal veterinary offices run free deworming alongside anti-rabies drives. Ask yours about the next schedule.
